Miller House School and the Baker Clause
Introduced in 2018 by former Education Secretary Lord Kenneth Baker, the Baker Clause requires schools to provide access for colleges and training providers to speak with students in Years 8–11. This ensures that all pupils are fully informed about the full range of technical, vocational, and academic pathways available to them.
The government’s Statutory Guidance (updated July 2021) states:
“Schools and colleges have a responsibility to set students on the path that will secure the best outcomes, enabling them to progress in education and work, and to provide employers with the highly skilled people they need.”
At Miller House School, we act impartially and do not promote one route over another. We are committed to ensuring that all students are aware of, and have access to, a broad range of post-16 options, including academic, vocational, and technical pathways.
Our goal is to empower every young person to make informed, confident decisions about their future and to help them take the next steps towards meaningful education, training, or employment.
